Glow From Within To Without
Ever since I learned about seasonal detoxes (fall, winter, spring, summer) under the guidance of my mentor Dr. Stephen Cabral - doctor of naturopathy - I was on the band wagon - I followed protocol. It made so much sense to me. The weather change, eating seasonally and giving my body a rest, especially my liver organ that works so hard every day to filter and digest became a quarterly ritual for me and my commUNITY. As a yoga teacher I practice my rituals off my mat, as well - the yogi, spiritual and biblical way of living a healthy life is to honor your body’s temple - cleaning out unwanted toxins, stress, and waste. The benefits are enormous and healing. You begin to look at food as medicine - delicious and healthy - so you can thrive with vitality. So, where does the glow come from? You can slather your skin with the best and most expensive products - but the true glow comes from within. Have you ever woken up after a sugar binge, a few alcoholic drinks, ate pastas and cookies, and the next morning waking up to swollen, bloated, pimply, dry, saggy skin? Not a mystery! We glow from within - our skin talks to us.
Having sensitive skin and skin challenges - rashes and eczema I can tell you that when I changed my diet and rested my gut and liver my skin improved.
This week I’m dedicated to clean house - talking about my personal temple - gotta clean and declutter! Feels so good!

Recipe: below is one of my clean dishes - it’s a winner!
4 boneless chicken breasts
4 cups lukewarm water - to allow chicken to sit in bowl with salt
1/4 cup salt
1 tbsp olive oil - to rub on chicken when placed on baking sheet
seasoning for chicken:
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp paprika
1/8 cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp dried thyme
1/2 tsp dried basil
1/2 tsp dried rosemary
1/4 tsp dried parsley
1/4 tsp salt optional - chicken will absorb the salt from the salted water
-garnish: chopped fresh parsley - optional
- preheat oven to 425 degrees
- place chicken in small bowl and add the lukewarm water and salt, stir. Set aside for 20 minutes or 2 hours in the fridge covered.
- prepare the seasoning for the chicken - there’s a lot - combine all the spices in a small bowl, stir with fork and set aside
- pour out the salt water and rinse each chicken breast under cold water - pat dry with a paper towel on both sides
- place chicken breasts on a baking sheet pan and rub the olive oil all over the chicken
- sprinkle the seasoning evenly over the chicken breasts on both sides. Use as much as you like. I use it all - the taste is perfection!
- bake in oven for 20-30 minutes depending on how thick your chicken breasts are. Check after 20 minutes if they are cooked through
- remove from oven and transfer to serving plate or cutting board and let them rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing
- garnish with freshly chopped parsley and serve - it’s a beauty and delish!
Genia’s Spoon Me Tips:
For a crisp brown effect broil the chicken breasts for the last 4 minutes until golden on top
Keeping a meal balanced without the extra load of carbohydrates - I serve this with asparagus, crudite: red bell peppers and celery sticks and shiitake mushrooms lightly sautéed.
