Summer Aloe Vera Ginger Lemonade

Absolutely delicious! Serving in a champagne or wine glass makes this summer drink even more decadent

I’m prepping for summer - June 21 - with a drink that will quench your thirst in health, wellness and deliciousness. Heading out to our happy place in Fire Island for a chunk of the summer and planning on hydrating using medicinal ingredients for hot summer days. This recipe is easy to create. All you need are the ingredients and ambition (not much, though - have faith that you can create a homemade decadent drink right in your own kitchen).

Aloe Vera - Ginger - Lemonade is a perfect tasty and healthy remedy on hot summer days. All three of these ingredients combined soothes the stomach and cools down the body.

Lemon and aloe vera are cholagogues, meaning they clean the gall bladder of bile - which improves fat metabolism. Bile stores many blood-born toxins so lemon and aloe also detoxifies the blood. When we flush bile it helps to prevent gallstones, cools and relaxes an overheated body.

Food is medicine and prevention!

Aloe vera, Lemon and Ginger also acts as an anti-inflammatory. All body types can benefit from this delicious summer inspired drink. It’s cooling, cleaning, warming for the gut (digestive health) and energizing - a recipe for hydrating bliss.

Shout out to Joyful Belly - School of Ayurvedic Diet and Digestion for this beautiful summer recipe.

Genia’s Spoon Me Tips
Aloe Vera, Ginger and lemonade quenches thirst, great for your digestion, detoxifies, an anti-inflammatory, rebuilds fluids, antibacterial and energizes = a drink I’ll be concocting all summer. I’m mindful about my sugar intake, although, I use monk fruit which is a great sugar alternative if you’re sugar sensitive.

It’s nice to have a cool drink on a hot day. I prefer room temperature drinks - easier to digest - so I’ll be keeping my homemade drink on the counter during the day, and refrigerate at night if it lasts that long - these drinks go fast!

I love drinking my juices in a wine glass or mason jar. The presentation and holding the glass changes the experience.

Boiled and simmered the water, ginger and monk fruit, added the fresh lemon juice and aloe vera juice and added to a jug to cool down

Recipe
3 cups Aloe Vera Gel
2 inches fresh ginger root
8 whole fresh lemon juice - option to use less lemon
1/2 cup raw sugar or monk fruit
8 cups water

Instruction

  • juice lemons in cup

  • grate ginger into small bowl

  • combine water, sugar, and ginger in large saucepan and bring to boil, then simmer for 10 minutes

  • remove from heat, add aloe vera juice and fresh lemon juice and let cool on counter or in fridge to chill

  • ready to serve - garnish with lemon wedges for presentation or a stick of aloe vera - looks really cool in a glass.

    Much love and hydration,
    Genia
