Takra Latte -Probiotic Drink For Digestion

Takra is a healing Ayurvedic drink – an ancient latte, so to speak. It restores beneficial bacteria, heals gut imbalances, and strengthens the immune system. This Takra latte (with some extra spices to boost the digestive process of yogurt) can help with digestive issues, diarrhea, constipation, hemorrhoids, and Crohn's disease.

Recipe

½-1 cup plain yogurt – greek, sheep, or goat – let sit out of fridge for an hour
½-1 cup hot water – can also use room temperature water
¼ cup cilantro or mint leaves – chopped
Pinch of salt
1-2 tbsp Bob’s Red Mill Hemp Protein Powder®

For a sweet taste:

¼ tsp coriander powder
¼ tsp fresh ginger – grated
Pinch of cinnamon

For a savory taste:

¼ tsp cumin powder – you can roast the seeds and grind yourself
¼ tsp turmeric powder
Pinch of black pepper
Pinch of fennel

Instructions

  • Use a whisk or blender (regular or handheld) to blend the yogurt and water

  • Scrape away the foam that rises to the surface (milk fat a.k.a. buttermilk), unless you want to drink it which is perfectly healthy – you may want the extra fat

  • Blend again after you remove the foam, and if more foam arises, remove again

  • Add the spices for either the sweet or savory recipe

  • Stir once the spices and cilantro (or mint) are added and mix evenly

  • Let the latte settle for a few minutes

  • Put through colander to create a clear and clean drink

  • Enjoy at room temperature

Genia’s Spoon Me Tips

If you don’t have time in the morning, you can make this latte the night before and store it in the fridge – but fresh is always best!

During my Spring cleanse, I will be drinking my Takra latte for breakfast with hot water to stimulate my digestive fire. Adding warm water strengthens the fire in your gut while cold water puts the fire out. We want to maintain heat in our gut to assist in digesting our foods and soothing our stomach.

You can drink Takra every day for breakfast or lunch. Ayurveda recommends drinking it by lunchtime – the best time to digest your food.

Latte Love,
Genia
