Teas To Promote Healthy Digestive

When you have a healing crises - ‘digestive health issues’ you search for answers - or at least I do! I’m one to get to the root cause of why things happen and explore my options. Ayurveda - the ancient wisdom of health and wellness - science of life has been practiced for more than 5000 years - it’s a testament to ways one can use foods, spices, movement and breath to heal the body. Ayurveda defines life as the uninterrupted flow of prana - energy in our body. Sometimes food energizes and wakes us up and other times food can drain us - ever feel like taking a nap after a meal or snack? Digestion transforms food into energy, body tissues, and even influences our thoughts and feelings (good mood/bad mood - anyone?)

For now we will focus on using spices and herbs to increase the fire - agni within our gut - the power of self care is real! We need the heat to breakdown food and digest properly to feel great before, after and even during eating. There’s plenty to learn from the teachings of Ayurveda. A great book recommendation by the Ayurvedic master teacher Dr. Vasant Lad: Ayurveda: The Science of Self-Healing.

There are so many hacks and trends out there that are being promoted. But, have you ever learned about when to drink, food combining, chewing your feed until it’s pasty before you swallow? My teachers: Maimonides and Michio Kushi taught me: ‘drink your food and chew your drink’ - now that’s something to digest over.

Our gut is smarter and wiser and more delicate than you can imagine. The labor involved in order to digest foods and even liquids is work - there’s a factory assembly line going on in the gut and we are our bod'y’s CEO. It’s in our hands - actually or mouth that can create a successful digest and rest experience or G-D forbid wreck havoc. Trust me - there’s a reason I’m so passionate to share my knowledge on proper digestion and gut health. It’s a work in progress! I’m here to share!

Enjoy these simple and mindful tea recipes. Prepare for the holidays or anytime you know you’ll be eating more than usual and need a healing cup of tea. Cheers!
